COCEPRADIL – The Central Committee for Water and Integral Development of Lempira
Recognizing clean water as fundamental for health, livelihoods and dignity, the Central Committee for Water and Integral Development of Lempira (COCEPRADIL) uses community spirit, topography and gravity to bring clean water directly to homes in western Honduras.
Who is COCEPRADIL?
COCEPRADIL is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Candeleria, Honduras. It works to create sustainable futures through water access, women’s empowerment, nutrition and agricultural support.

Who does COCEPRADIL serve?
COCEPRADIL serves the communities in the Lempira Department of Honduras. These communities invest in clean water projects by constructing pipelines – often hand-digging kilometers of trenches – monitoring water use at each home and performing maintenance on the system. Bringing clean, running water to homes is just the beginning of partnerships that improve livelihoods and change lives in western Honduras. From women’s cooperatives to faith-based education in local schools, and supplemental nutrition through community gardens, the fruit of this labor continues to multiply.
How does COCEPRADIL support food security in Honduras?
- Sustainable Agriculture Training:
- Provides workshops teaching sustainable farming techniques and essential resources, helping farmers increase crop yield and protect soil health.
- Livestock and Poultry Programs:
- Families receive chickens and livestock for nutrition and income, along with training in animal care to ensure their animals remain healthy and productive.
- Water Management and Irrigation:
- Year-round farming, even during dry seasons, has been made possible through irrigation systems and water conservation education provided by our partner in Honduras.
- Community Gardens and Cooperatives:
- Community gardens and agricultural cooperatives empower families to grow nutritious food locally and support one another through shared resources.
- Small Lending Groups:
- Women pool resources to fund farming endeavors and small businesses such as baking collectives, produce stands and soap-making.
- Nutrition and Health Education:
- Nutrition workshops focus on balanced diets and safe food preparation, with special programs to address child malnutrition and monitor health.
